The 87 downloads for sale at wolfgangsvault were a little overwhelming for me to just purchase them all. So I decided to compare the stream to the sbds I had (I have most of the ones listed at etree for these dates). That meant trying to determine which of the many sbd versions of a show was the best sound quality and least digitally flawed and then comparing that to the wgv stream. Of course the wgv stream is lossy which normally manifests as a decrease in the fullness of sound. (For a few dates, the lossy algorthim wgv used is different and hard to predict how it will compare to the flac and that is indicated in the comment for that show.) Also it was assumed that the the wgv stream was representative of the flac just degraded by its lossiness. So if my comment indicates similar sound, then that takes in to account my assumed adjustment for the the flac to have a fuller sound.
So if I were to find the wgv stream to be much better than the circulating best sbd, then that would make it a higher priority for purchase. And similarly if it is much worse it gets a lower priority. So I have buy ratings from highest to lowest on whether the sound quality has the potential to be better (Y, y, ?, n, N). Also not all the wgv shows are as complete as what otherwise circulates.
So I have compared the shows except for ones that are official gd releases and those are noted in the comment. I also made assumptions that first and second set are similar quality. In almost all cases, the wgv stream quality was consistent for the whole set/show. The wgv stream set was captured in totalrecorder as a wav and side by side comparisons were done against the other sbds. The comparison was generally done on 30 seconds of one soft jerry vocal song per show with the volumes made equal.
I like warm full sound and I know a lot of people do prefer sound that is harsher and more compressed than what I like based on many of the remasters I come across. So I recommend comparing for yourself.as I have made a lot of assumptions and have biases in what I prefer in sound quality
